Ebony Inn Inc: Cultural Arts for Youth (EII) is a nonprofit, community, cultural enrichment organization established to broaden the cultural base of youth in Carroll County.  EII's program focuses on exposing youth to performing and visual art and to other cultural activities which they would not normally experience. EII has been in operation in Carroll County since December 1990 and was officially incorporated December 1991.  EII received its 501(c) 3 tax exempt status December 1992.

The name Ebony Inn Inc originated from Mr. Jeff Long’s Cafe, which operated on the corner of Church and King Streets in Carrollton, GA from 1956 to 1963.  The name was first used as Ebony Inn Production in 1989 when the founder, Corlis Long, produced the play "Do Lord Remember Me" at McGuire AFB, NJ, for a Black History Observance.  It later became Ebony Inn Foundation when the scope and goals of the organization expanded.

Ebony Inn Inc started in Carrollton with Corlis Long, Elliott Long, Ester Onaro, Jeanette Eckles and Gilmer Sheffield as its first Board of Directors.  They realized the recreation for many youth in the area was limited to sporting events and amusement parks.  These individuals also recognized that many youth in Carroll County had very few opportunities to travel outside the surrounding area.  Developing a program to address these issues was the initial thrust that became EII.

WHAT DO WE DO

EXPOSE THE YOUTH TO CULTURAL ARTS

EII Cultural Arts for the Youth Programs focus on exposing youth to culture & arts through field trips to museums, art galleries, live theaters, festivals, & much more!

EDUCATE OUR YOUTH

We also host events to educate the youth. We cover a variety of topics (i.e. how to conduct a business meeting, life skills, etiquette, money management, anger management, and sex education.)

PROVIDE THEATRE EXPERIENCE

Performances include a variety of live theater productions, from reciting original poems to full length plays. Members also learn the behind-the-scenes requirements of stage management, props, lights, sound, etc.

CONNECT & GIVE ACCESS

Organizations whose principals and policies are in accordance with those of EII are identified and some form of interaction is arranged, i.e. business meeting, outing or fund raisers.

OUR MOTTO

"LEARN TO THINK"

We inspire the youth to develop their sense to think for themselves and create their own solutions.

CREED

I WILL LEARN TO THINK

  • Creatively with new ideas opening paths for others to follow.

  • Positively about myself and all those around me.

  • Clearly without the effects of anger, prejudice, or fear.

  • Independently not having to follow the lead of my friends to be accepted.

  • Respectfully of my parents, teachers and others wishing to guide me to successful adulthood.

  • Responsibly of my own actions.  Not blaming anyone for what I become.

OUR PURPOSE

Is to broaden the cultural base of local youth through the exposure to performing and visual arts.  To create a climate that is conducive to the development of personal pride.  To develop a program which directly enhances the skills, abilities, and knowledge of local youth.

We are a Non-Profit Community Cultural Enrichment Organization that exposes youth to art galleries, museums, and live theater!
